Join the UWA Boat Club Minimize

Membership of the UWA Boat Club is open to the general public as well as students.

The club caters for athletes of all abilities - from those who have never rowed before to those in preparation for national selection.

The WA Rowing season generally begins around the end of April each year, culminating in the State Championships in late September/early October. Correspondingly, most of the rowing at UWA takes place from just after the UWA ODay in February until the end of the WA season.

During the season there are three distinct rowing groups - Novice, Open and Masters. Each group has men's and women's crews and each crew is coached.

If you have any questions about where you might fit in please direct them to the Vice Captains - Contact Us.

Novice Rowing

Novice crews are generally made up complete newbies to the sport and each crew starts the season learning to row from scratch. Read more about the novice intake and learning to row.

The Open Squads

If you have rowed before (beyond novice level) you will generally be pooled with the Open squads. From each squad crews are selected based on ability, resulting in a 'first eight', 'second eight' etc. arrangement of athletes. Read more about the open squads and selection.

Masters Rowing

If you're 27 years or older (or turning 27 in the current year) you're eligible to row Masters. Masters races are rowed over 1000m and there are several 'Masters Only' regattas during the season. Masters may also compete in regular Pennant regattas in either open or novice races (as their ROMS score permits). Read more about Masters Rowing.
